2024 Mercedes AMG GLC
2025 BMW X5 M

Safety

For enhanced safety, the front and rear seat shoulder belts of the Mercedes AMG GLC have pretensioners to tighten the seatbelts and eliminate dangerous slack in the event of a collision and force limiters to limit the pressure the belts will exert on the passengers. The BMW X5 M doesn’t offer pretensioners for its rear seat belts.

For enhanced safety, the front seat shoulder belts of the Mercedes AMG GLC are height-adjustable to accommodate a wide variety of driver and passenger heights. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages passengers to buckle up. The BMW X5 M doesn’t offer height-adjustable seat belts.

Earlier warning of stopped traffic, traffic signals, dangerous road conditions, weather, or accidents, can keep driver's safer and prevent crashes. The AMG GLC offers optional Car-to-X, a system that seamlessly communicates important warnings to the driver about impending danger, if they're available. The X5 M doesn’t offer a system that can receive automated systems from other vehicles.

Both the AMG GLC and the X5 M have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors, available lane departure warning systems and around view monitors.

Warranty

Fuel Economy and Range

On the EPA test cycle the AMG GLC 43 gets better fuel mileage than the X5 M Competition (19 city/25 hwy vs. 13 city/18 hwy).

Transmission

A nine-speed automatic is standard on the Mercedes AMG GLC, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only an eight-speed automatic is available for the X5 M.

Tires and Wheels

Changing a flat tire near traffic can be dangerous and inconvenient. The run-flat tires available on the AMG GLC can be driven up to 50 miles without any air pressure, allowing you to drive to a service station for a repair. The X5 M doesn’t offer run-flat tires.

Suspension and Handling

The AMG GLC’s drift compensation steering can automatically compensate for road conditions which would cause the vehicle to drift from side to side, helping the driver to keep the vehicle straight more easily. The X5 M doesn’t offer drift compensation steering.

For better maneuverability, the AMG GLC’s turning circle is 1.3 feet tighter than the X5 M’s (40.7 feet vs. 42 feet).

Chassis

The Mercedes AMG GLC may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 950 pounds less than the BMW X5 M.

The AMG GLC is 7.8 inches shorter than the X5 M, making the AMG GLC easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

Passenger Space

The AMG GLC has .5 inches more front headroom, .9 inches more front legroom and .3 inches more rear headroom than the X5 M.

Towing

The AMG GLC has a 3500 lbs. towing capacity. The X5 M has no towing capacity.

Optional Trailer Stability Assist on the AMG GLC uses the Electronic Stability Program sensors to detect trailer sway, then uses individual brakes to counteract any swaying and help keep the tow vehicle and trailer steady. The X5 M doesn’t offer electronic trailer sway control.

Ergonomics

Heated windshield washer fluid is standard on the AMG GLC to defrost the washer nozzles and quickly clear ice and frost from the windshield without scraping. The X5 M doesn’t offer heated windshield washer fluid.

The AMG GLC has a 115-volt a/c outlet on the center console, allowing you to recharge a laptop or run small household appliances without special adapters that can break or get misplaced. The X5 M doesn’t offer a house-current electrical outlet.
